Staddle Stones & Millstones

Staddle stones are traditional post bases, originally used to lift wooden buildings above ground level to protect them from vermin and water. Now they have become highly sought after garden ornaments. For many years, people across the world have been cutting and shaping pieces of stone into milling stones to grind all types of grains. Intricate patterns were painstakingly hand carved onto the grinding surfaces to improve the way the stones sheared open the cereal grains and transported the milled flour towards the edge of the millstone. Now adays they are used as pieces of historical artwork.

Due to the nature of the pieces in our collections, some items have become naturally weathered over time and have an aged patina.

Actual colours may vary slightly from what appears on your screen due to individual monitor settings and lighting sources.
